Amigurumi or crocheted toys is a slightly different artwork from other types of crochet. Mostly because it involves 3D rather than 2D projects, which means that the crocheting techniques often involve rounds rather than rows.

There are so many different hobbies out there to choose from, it can be overwhelming. There are many reasons for people to adopt hobbies - to keep themselves occupied, they might be looking for an escape from work, or they might just want something new to do.

Crocheting is a form of needle craft where yarn is transformed into textured fabric by using a hooked needle. Crocheting also involves a process where stitches are made by using the crochet hook to loop and pull yarn through the loop. Crochet can be done with just one hook and any type of yarn and has many different uses. It’s one of the easiest crafts to learn and is great for beginners. 

This was something that happened to me back in July 2021, most exciting! I was approached back in 2020 for a feature on a Channel 8 program (a Singapore Mandarin speaking television channel) but it didn’t exactly pan out. Fast forward to middle of 2021, I was contacted for the same program and it was confirmed that I was going to be featured in a program about the ‘Slash Generation’.

Crocheting involves creating various shapes to achieve different outcomes, 2D shapes like circles can be made into doilies or rectangles made into blankets. As for amigurumi, it often involves creating various 3D shapes, for instance spheres and cylinders instead.

My latest free pattern and isn’t she a pretty little duck? There are quite a few components here including her beak, wings, webbed feet, hat and even her flower on her hat! They all work up individually and have to be attached together so I would say there is a fair amount of assembling to do here.

This is an interesting topic for me to talk about because I always found it a useful tool to measure children’s developmental milestones, at least when I’m in clinic doing developmental assessments. So I decided why not try incorporating crochet into it? So let’s talk about stackable toys for children, which can range from toddlers to preschoolers.

Oooh so this is something exciting that I’ve been trying out to complement some of my amigurumis. Some of my recent collections, I have been trying to include a sort of ‘container’ to house the amigurumis.

Woo Hoo Picard is back! This series is not quite like Star Trek Voyager but it’s nice to see Jean Luc again and Data! I made this collection back when I started watching that Star Trek series and it was one of my simpler designs when I used to make everything as seamless as possible.

Now this was probably the most recent thing I made of the TNG series. There was quite a bit of trial and error but it was all in good fun. Of course I started off with the iconic saucer and initially tried single crochet rounds - ended up looking more like an octagon. Then I tried making double crochet rounds and that turned out more satisfactory.

It’s always the season of love right? Hope you liked my Peter and Jane Patterns on a bench. Decided to release my Cindy Bear pattern for free this month! She works up pretty and pretty fast too with her skirt and flower. The head and body are continuous, but the detailing does include some attachments!
