Television Feature on my ‘Slash Lifestyle’!

This was something that happened to me back in July 2021, most exciting! I was approached back in 2020 for a feature on a Channel 8 program (a Singapore Mandarin speaking television channel) but it didn’t exactly pan out. Fast forward to middle of 2021, I was contacted for the same program and it was confirmed that I was going to be featured in a program about the ‘Slash Generation’.

The Program

It’s a program basically featuring various individuals who choose multiple career choices. To be honest, I never really considered my crocheting hobby to be an alternative career, it was more like an extension of my personality and hobby. Nonetheless, I was intrigued by the whole thing and decided to go ahead with it.

Filming day - my crocheting half

I started off in the morning heading out to the film studio where I packed along some of my latest yarn creations, to film the crocheting half of myself. These are some of the things I packed along! Mostly my newer Amigurumi sets, with my working yarn bag and some Ami books I used to love to refer to in the past.

The studio itself was somewhere in Holland Village and while trying to find a convenient place to park, I stumbled across some beautiful artwork nearby on the buildings! The filming location had a nice homey vibe and I started off the filming by answering some interview questions. It was positivity nerve-wracking, answering a whole series of questions in Mandarin (suffice to say, definitely not my strong suit).

Then came the easier part, which I proceeded to an outdoor alfresco area and just sat down and did what I loved most - just crocheting! So I had a camera man shooting different angles of me crocheting little Ben in a swimsuit, done in w continuous seamless round.

Filming day - my doctoring half

So after lunch, we proceeded onto my clinic, which was the next shooting location. It was kind of surreal to film both parts in the same day, because I feel these are two separate aspects of my life. They filmed me putting on my Personal Protective Equipment and also filmed me seeing a physical patient and her follow-up via teleconsultation. Next door, my husband were still seeing our usual walk-in and appointment patients.

It was a wrap thereafter, the afternoon filming went much faster and the film crew were a breeze to work with. They are August productions working with Channel 8 on this program. I would say I generally don’t like appearing in front of a camera but this was a most interesting experience for me. I am, with much honesty, waiting in trepidation for the release of the program. I hope I don’t embarrass myself too much!

Stay tuned for the feature, can’t wait to show you guys!
