Introduction to Crocheting Flat Egg Applique
In this post, we will first be starting off with the relevant supplies and techniques you would need to crochet this small egg. Here to make this egg, we only be using 1 yarn colour. The other colours come in when you want to do the embroidery. Then we will head into the pattern proper.
As this is a beginner friendly pattern, here you will learn how to crochet a egg shape without any special stitches, just increases and decreases in single crochet.

Terminology for Crocheting Flat Egg
Ch = chain
St = stitch (refers to number of stitches in one round)
2sc1 = single crochet increase (meaning 2 single crochet in same stitch)
Sc2tog1 = single crochet decrease (referring to invisible decrease)
Materials and Tools for Crocheting Egg Applique
3.5mm Furls Streamline Blush crochet hook
Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn
Version 1 - Beige, Blue, Green (25gm each)
Version 2 - White, Purple, Green (25gm each)
Scissors

Now that you have gathered your supplies and had a look at the basic terminology to reading the following pattern, let us first get started!
Yarn
Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn
Crochet hook
2.5-3.0mm Clover crochet hook
Stuffing
Use leftover yarn or polyester fibrefill
Darning Needles
Safety Eyes
4mm glass eyes or safety eyes
Stitch Markers
Plastic stitch markers or metal stitch markers
Crochet Egg Applique Pattern
Start with bottom then work upwards to the top of egg using orange yarn.
Row 1: Ch5
Row 2: Work into 2nd ch from hook, sc4, ch1 and turn - 4st
Row 3: 2sc1, sc2, 2sc1, ch1 and turn - 6st
Row 4: 2sc1, sc4, 2sc1, ch1 and turn - 8st
Row 5: 2sc1, sc6, 2sc1, ch1 and turn - 10st
Row 6: 2sc1, sc8, 2sc1, ch1 and turn - 12st
Row 7: Sc12, ch1 and turn - 12st
Row 8: Sc12, turn - 12st
Row 9: Sc2tog1, sc8, sc2tog1, turn - 10st
Row 10: Sc10, turn - 10st
Row 11: Sc2tog1, sc6, sc2tog1, turn- 8st
Row 12: Sc8, turn - 8st
Row 13: Sc2tog1, sc4, sc2tog1, turn - 6st
Row 14: Sc6, turn - 6st
Row 15: Sc2tog1, sc2, sc2tog1, turn - 4st
Row 16: Sc2tog2 and end off - 2st
Work into round from rows now
Round 1: Sc15 one side, sc2 along bottom, sc15 on other side, sc2 along top - 34st
Round 2: Sl st 1 in new round and end off - 1st
Embroider flowers on appliqué
Sew blue flowers outwards across 1st in 5 directions from a central stitch, then sew vertical green stalk downwards to the bottom.
(Alternatively, crochet white egg applique with purple flowers and green stalks.)
