Free Crochet Chick Amigurumi Pattern
After crocheting basic shapes like spheres and cones, try your hand at making this chick amigurumi which has these same shapes incorporated. Add on the pointy beak and the feet without any sewing and the piece is quickly completed. With the free pattern below and the accompanying video, you will be mastering this animal in no time!

Introduction to Crocheting Chick
In this post, we will first be starting off with the relevant supplies and techniques you would need to crochet this duck. Here to make things simple, we will only be using 2 yarn colours and in this case, it looks more like a naked chick! Then we will head into the pattern proper which includes the head and then the body.
As this is an ambitious beginner friendly pattern, here you will learn how to crochet a simple cone for the head, use taller stitches for the beak and also learn how to use skip stitches to make the tai

Supplies and Techniques for Crocheting a Chick
Here I have listed the techniques as well as the materials needed to crochet a chick amigurumi. Each one is individually linked if you need to learn more about how to master each technique, or you could check out this post on “How to Learn Basic Crochet Stitches step by step for Absolute Beginners - 6 Easy Steps!”.
There are also some special stitches involved in crocheting this chick which are listed below (cluster stitches) and they are also individually linked to tutorials which will be helpful if you do not know how to make these stitches.

Terminology for Crocheting Chick
Ch = chain
St = stitch (refers to number of stitches in one round)
2sc1 = single crochet increase (meaning 2 single crochet in same stitch)
Sc2tog1 = single crochet decrease (referring to invisible decrease)
Special Stitches for Crocheting Chick
4sc1 = 4 single crochet in same stitch
Sc4tog1 = single crochet 4 together
= insert hook in indicated, yo, pull up loop, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up loop, repeat another 2 times, yo, pull through all loops on hook
(or single crochet cluster stitch)
Materials and Tools for Crocheting Chick
Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn
Version 1 - Beige, Peach (25gm each)
Version 2 - Yellow, Orange (25gm each)
Black (stash for eyes)
Darning needle
Filling – use leftover yarn or polyester fiberfill
Scissors
Glass eyes (just for landmarking)

Now that you have gathered your supplies and had a look at the basic terminology to reading the following pattern, let us first get started!
Yarn
Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn
Crochet hook
2.5-3.0mm Clover crochet hook
Stuffing
Use leftover yarn or polyester fibrefill
Darning Needles
Safety Eyes
4mm glass eyes or safety eyes
Stitch Markers
Plastic stitch markers or metal stitch markers
Crochet Chick Pattern
Crochet Chick Head
Start off head using beige yarn.
Round 1: Ch4, sc2, 3sc1, go around and work into the other side of foundation chain, sc1, 2sc1 (all beige) – 8st
Round 2: Sc3, 2sc1, sc3, 2sc1 (all beige) - 10st
Round 3: 2sc10 (all beige) - 20st
Round 4: Sc20 (all beige) - 20st
Round 5: Repeat Round 4 - 20st
Get ready peach yarn for the next round.
Round 6: Sc10 (beige), 4sc1 (beige), sc2 (beige), (sc1, hdc1) FLO (orange), (hdc1, dc1, ch1 and sl st 1 down, hdc1) FLO (peach), (hdc1, sc1) FLO (peach), sc2 (beige), 4sc1 (beige), sc1 (beige) - 30st
Round 7: Sc10 (beige), sc4tog1 (beige), sc2 (beige), sc3 BLO (peach), sc2 (beige), sc4tog1 (beige), sc1 (beige) - 20st
Round 8: (Sc1, sc2tog1) x 4 (beige), sc1 (beige), sc1 FLO (peach), (hdc1 FLO, ch1 and sl st 1 down) (peach), sc1 FLO (peach), sc1 (beige), sc2tog1 (beige), sc1 (beige) - 15st
Add stuffing to head.
Round 9: Sc2tog4, sc1, sc3 BLO, sc1, sc2tog1 (all beige) - 10st
Round 10: Sc10 (beige) - 10st
Crochet Chick Body
Continue into body using beige yarn.
Round 11: (Sc1, 2sc1) x 5 (beige) - 15st
Round 12: (Sc2, 2sc1) x 5 (beige) - 20st
Round 13: Sc4, 2sc2, sc4, (sc1, ch2, sl st 1 into 2nd ch from hook, dc1, hdc1, sc1) FLO, 2sc1, (sc1, 2sc1) x 3, 2sc1, (sc1, hdc1, dc1, ch1, sl st 1 down, ch2 and sl st 1 into main st in round) FLO (all beige) - 33st
Round 14: Sc5, 2sc2, sc5, sc1 BLO, sc13, sc1 BLO (all beige) - 29st
Round 15: Sc6, 2sc2, sc6, sc15 (all beige) - 31st
Round 16: Sc7, 2sc2, sc7, (sc1, sc2tog1) x 5 (all beige) - 28st
Round 17: Sc7, skip 4st, sc7, sc2tog5 (all beige) - 19st
Get ready peach yarn for the next round.
Round 18: Sc3 (beige), sc4tog2 (beige), sc2 (beige), sc2tog1 (beige), (sc1, ch2, sl st 1 into 2nd ch from hook, sl st 1 in main st, ch2, sl st 1 into 2nd ch from hook, sl st 1 in main st, ch2, sl st 1 into 2nd ch from hook, sc1 in main st) FLO (peach), sc2tog1 (beige), (sc1, ch2, sl st 1 into 2nd ch from hook, sl st 1 in main st, ch2, sl st 1 into 2nd ch from hook, sl st 1 in main st, ch2, sl st 1 into 2nd ch from hook, sc1 in main st) FLO (peach) - 17st
Add stuffing to body.
Round 19: Sc4tog2, sc1 BLO, sc1, sc1 BLO (all beige) - 5st
Close up in FLO and fasten off using beige yarn.

Embroider Chick Face
Embroider Chick Eyes
Add eyes by embroidering French knots just one round above the peach beak.
Thread in through head and out to the desired eye location. Without removing yarn from the needle, place tip of needle close to the surface of the face. Loop yarn close to the face around needle twice.
Insert eye back into intended eye position and out through head again. Do not pull the yarn taut because the whole knot will go into the head. Instead, when pulling needle out of the head, pull gently so that the knot stays on the face.
