Anatomy of A Yarnling - spotlight A-Mei-Zing!

Mei was actually the favourite Overwatch Yarnling I made - at least I felt she resembled the original character the most. I even made her fatter than the other girls in the series (!!!).

If you break her down into anatomical parts… she essentially consists of what most of the humanoid Yarnlings include - hairstyles, accessories, bust, limbs and trimmings.

1) Hairstyles

For Mei, she has a fringe and sideburns - all made in one continuous seamless wig cap plus the bun added on at the end. Some of the other characters have ponytails, curls and different fringes.

2) Accessories

In this particular case, I made spectacles for her using wires. I had an earlier post about wire work in crochet if you missed it. She looks a bit like Velma Dinkley from Scooby Doo no? (PS I did use paper clips initially for Velma 😂 - can you tell?)

3) Bust

I did try to create a subtle Yarnling Cleavage, one that was not too outstanding and strange-looking haha. I did made Mei’s waist bigger than the rest of the girls though.

4) Limbs

This is a post for a different time. My earlier Yarnlings only used bobble stitches as both the arms and legs. Of late, I have added on the arm extensions but they are still seamless. I generally don’t like adding on the limbs externally because if makes the Yarnling more chunky.

5) Trimmings

This usually entails skirt attachments or jacket extensions that go below the waist. I made something similar for Hulk in Ragnarok as well, using roughly the same pattern for the skirt.

So there the anatomy of a Yarnling! Next time I’ll probably do a post on animal Yarnlings (I made a Looney Tunes and Yogi Bear series before) - they are quite different from the humanoid Yarnlings!
