My First Pattern Design and the Inspiration behind it!

The collection I’m going to reveal this month is something very special to me and it’s also very exciting… this was the first instance when I decided to come up with my own independent designs!

Older collections

For me it is a very big milestone as previously I have been making Amigurumi designs mainly based off characters I know and love. As I delved deeper and deeper into ami designing, I grew more and more wary of copyright issues.

At a certain point in time, I decided to take another step forward and come up with my own designs, independent of any known copyright influences. It scares me and still does, because I don’t know if anyone will appreciate my art! It’s basically like designing toys!

Sources of inspiration

I do wonder sometimes how many other ami designers get their inspiration from. For me, I started getting inspired from random things around me. Crocheting distinct designs with bright colours always captivated me. One day, my little one was playing in her favourite Tiger suit and at that moment, I was thinking ‘I have to capture this moment before she grows up!’.

Magazine Feature!

Apart from getting inspiration from my family, there were other some really amazing creative people I have met online who has pushed me to think outside the box. There was this amazing editor Jenny from Crochet Now who encouraged me to try creating new independent designs (no copyright of course) and she even accepted this into a feature for her magazine!

The Future!

So now I’m at a cross roads. I have decided to go more into coming up with my own toy designs and take it from there. I have made countless other collections previously (based off characters I love), for which I have not written up the patterns, I may intermittently feature them on this blog, free if I can squeeze out the time.

I would really love to continuing doing this and keeping up my blog. It would really help me if you guys can tell me what you would love to see. Either comment below or send me an email! If you are a Pocket Yarnlings subscriber, just reach out to me… because I will definitely be needing more help in the future from Pattern Testers!
