5 ways I get my Crochet Inspiration
In the past, there were many occasions where I finished my previous makes and then I felt compelled to start a new collection (it still happens :). Then I often have difficulty coming up with new ideas to create.
Because my Amigurumis are pretty small and are relatively short projects, I don’t usually find myself with WIPs but I do have periods of time where I’m figuring out what to make next.
If you experience something similar, try these 5 ways I look to get inspiration. Most of the time, we just make what we love to make, am I right?
1) Favourite TV series and movies
This is a big one for me because I’m a huge geek! A lot of the times, the urge to make them comes right after watching the series! Guess which ones these are from? Click on each individual image to see where they came from and also how I made them!
2) Childhood cartoons
This particular source is probably hot on the heels of my little one and her cartoons. She’s kind of indulging herself in the cartoons that used to make my childhood memorable.
No prizes for guessing my rough age! Cartoon Network, Hanna Barbera and if you don’t recognize the last picture - Captain Planet and Planeteers!
3) Life experiences
This ties in with the last 2 points actually. Some of these experiences are worth reminiscing about since it is almost impossible for us to go traveling to distant locations now. Click on each individual to see some of my old Tumblr posts!
4) Festivals
This was something that I challenged myself to try because a Chinese Lion Dance Troupe seemed pretty complicated to make. I have some plans to maybe make a dragon version something in the future… See more of the behind the scenes of how I made it!
5) Family
So of late, I have these big plans to steer away from making copyright characters. They were really the source of my inspiration when I first started out making Amigurumis but because now I intend to really challenge myself creatively, I’m going to try to come up with some of my own creations!
My first Amigurumi which I came up with was inspired by my daughter who loves this Tiger Suit that we got for her. It was so much fun to make and after I finished it, she recognized it as herself!
I intend to re-release probably at the end of this year or next year so do stay tuned and look out for it! Here’s a sneak peek of how I made her, she’s called Tiger Lily!
