Using Stitch Markers for Amigurumi
Just a quick update and unboxing because I was so excited to receive this! Right after this Giveaway Collaboration with Yarnie Finds last month, I decided to purchase some for myself!
What are stitch markers?
They are little round objects either made from plastic or metal, often used to mark certain points in your crochet work so that it is easier to progress in the work. These are especially useful for making Amigurumi because we often work in rounds and it’s easy to forget the start of the round.
Some crocheters like to use stash yarn to mark the start of the round or even safety pins. I first started off using paper clips but they keep getting stuck in the yarn, not ideal.
Problems with plastic stitch markers
I usually use plastic ones that I got from a craft shop but my biggest issue is that it kept breaking! So I had to keep getting new ones. I know some crocheters don’t like to use stitch markers but I always lose count! Also, sometimes my patterns involve some marking manipulation and shifting the starting of the round, so it’s easier to write out the pattern in a more readable way.
Moving into metal stitch markers
So I decided to go search for pretty stitch markers on Etsy which are surprisingly not that easy to find. Or at least I’m quite fussy about the getting pretty things to go along with my Ami work. As for durability, I will have to test it out and see how it goes and maybe will post about it again.
My Unboxing from Yarnie Finds
Vari from Yarnie Finds was so sweet to include some bonuses (even though she offered and I did decline!) but it was a nice surprise. The two sets I decided to get was the Cat and Rabbit sets, just like the ones in the Giveaway. Had some reading cats as an extra set too.
Trialing and testing with metal stitch markers
The jury is out on this. I’ll going to test out crocheting my amigurumi using metal stitch markers and see how it goes. Some time down the line, you might just see my progress patterns with some metal stitch markers inside…
What do you think of them? Pretty right? If my crocheting addiction wasn’t enough, using these new sets probably has made that even more pronounced :).
