Making hdc bobble stitch on a chain

1.jpg

I have tried figuring out for a long time how to make a bobble stitch extend outwards. If you have seen my previous post on making bobble stitches as amigurumi limbs, then you know that I prefer to make the limbs as part of a continuous stitch from the main body, because c’mon, who likes sewing? ;)

As you can see in my old Boba Fett, I used bobble stitches as his limbs. Then subsequently, I figured out a way to make them extend outwards like I how i did with the Mandalorian.

How to make a hdc bob st on a chain

So this time, I’ll be showing how to do a half double crochet bobble stitch on a chain. If you are not sure of how to do a basic half double crochet stitch, you can check it out in my free 30-page ebook on basic crochet stitches.

(I recently figured out to make a double crochet bobble stitch on a chain which turns out even nicer, but that’s for another time!)

It starts off pretty simple, continue single crochet in a round and then chain 6. We will be inserting the hook into the 3rd chain from the hook. Steps 4-9 is basically making a half double crochet.

Then subsequently repeat making the hdc into the same chain again so that it gets all bundled up. I repeated it another 2 more times in steps 10-11. Invert it outwards so it looks like a bobble stitch.

Now to get back to the main body. Continue working into the side chain by using slip stitches until you reach the main round again. This is in steps 13-17.

Lock the chain back to the main round by either using slip stitch or single crochet back into the initial sc at start of chain.

In this particular case, I have decided in step 20 to form a slip stitch in the main round again. The final extended bobble stitch is in step 21!

If you would like to try out some easier stitches to use as seamless limbs, you can check out my old post below on how I used just bobble stitches to make as Pikachu’s limbs.

P.S. If you are not sure where to get silver yarn, consider trying to get them here to make the armour…

Happy hooking!
