Free Printable Colouring Book and the Story of ‘Nian’.

Woooo so the Lunar New Year is coming for us Chinese or Chinese New Year. So under normal circumstances (which did not happen for the last 1-2 CNYs), there would be a lot of noise and celebration with Lion Dances all over the country. It has been toned down a lot because of the pandemic but things are looking up…

So my aunt got my daughter a Chinese Book which taught about the Story of ‘Nian’ and she absolutely loves that short story so I decided to make a little colouring book with the story in English!

It’s just 4 pages long and it talks about how the Lion Dance came to be to scare off a monster called ‘Nian’ and how the accompaniment of loud beating of drums that we get during Chinese New Year was for the same purpose.

You can print it out, read the little story to your LO, which is very meaningful for us, (because why would your preschooler know why this even exists if we don’t teach them right?), and the pages have faint colours on them so they can colour in them too!

For those of you who do not celebrate CNY, go ahead and read this little story though because when I found out about it as a girl, I thought it was fascinating :).
